Pomegranate Kitchen wishes you a happy 2017
Rebecca Stewart
Welcome back everyone! Some will be back at work while others will still be on holiday, those lucky ducks should stay away because Wellington has been throwing down a ‘weatherbomb’ lately – not as dramatic as it sounds but still many more raindrops than is proper in the middle of summer! Pomegranate Kitchen had a great two weeks off, and some of our cooks got to explore a bit more of the New Zealand countryside with their families. Our latest news is that we have launched our individual lunch delivery. If you live or work in the postcode 6011 we...
Happy Holidays!
Rebecca Stewart
Hello again everyone and welcome to the last update for 2016. This time of year is manic for everyone, but the occasional day of sunshine does make it a little easier to get through and gives a taste of the lazy barefoot days to come. You can do it, just one more week! The big news from Pomegranate is that we will be launching our lunches in mid-January, with some delicious new menu items like wraps and cakes. We did intend to launch a bit earlier, but have had some setbacks because of technical website issues. If anyone is a Shopify...
On the Pledge of our seats...
Rebecca Stewart
We have come to the end of our Pledgeme campaign and exceeded our expectations with a total of $18,350 – over $3,000 more than expected! All of this will go towards training, equipment and ingredients for the cooks. As a reward, you lucky Pledgers will soon be receiving lunches, a tray of baklava, or even a meeting with the cooks. We will be in touch soon! Our cooks are travelling well in the kitchen. We are all learning how to work together and be the most efficient kitchen we can be – reviewing our systems and methods. We have been...
Life in the Pod at Moore Wilson's
Rebecca Stewart
Whew! Well we just finished an epic two week stint in the pop-up pods at Moore Wilson's in Wellington. I imagine most businesses start their work in there with a well-established staff team and some menu items they are familiar with making. We did not! In addition I got sick the day before opening AND my car broke down! Not off to an auspicious start. However we somehow stumbled through the first day (and an interview with Lynda Chanwai-Earle from RNZ) and things got much better from there. The day would start at eight in the Adulis kitchen across the...
Training Week at Pomegranate Kitchen
Rebecca Stewart
A really productive and fun week was had by all at the Pomegranate Kitchen training week, run by Sonia Tiatia from Dine Academy and held at Adulis Ethiopian Restaurant in Tory St. Our four chefs, women from Ethiopia, Syria, Afghanistan and Iran, came together to learn about health and safety, knife skills, and the processes needed to work in a commercial kitchen. They also taught us how to make some of their delicious family recipes, including baklava, biriyani, and spinach pie. Every morning we would start with a coffee together, and then Sonia covered a few items of theory in the...
