On the Pledge of our seats...

Rebecca Stewart

We have come to the end of our Pledgeme campaign and exceeded our expectations with a total of $18,350 – over $3,000 more than expected!  All of this will go towards training, equipment and ingredients for the cooks. As a reward, you lucky Pledgers will soon be receiving lunches, a tray of baklava, or even a meeting with the cooks. We will be in touch soon!
Our cooks are travelling well in the kitchen.  We are all learning how to work together and be the most efficient kitchen we can be – reviewing our systems and methods. We have been able to purchase a new bench top deep fryer recently for the falafel – the cooks have never used one before but it means we can speed up our operations, and it’s safer too.
They have brought a lot of knowledge and experience to the table, and because they hail from multiple countries this sometimes differs – lots of yummy ways to make kofta and falafel, for example! We have had fun tasting and testing and working together to come up with the meals that are on the menu today. Laura Greenfield from Field and Green came in to workshop some dishes with us, and we learned a lot from each other.
Although we work hard there are giggles too – the other day when an eggplant was shooting off steam like a train, for example, or when an empty squeeze bottle makes a farting noise (some jokes are cross cultural!). They were very rattled by the earthquakes here in Wellington, as we all were – for some of them it was the first they had ever felt, and what a first experience to have. We hope everyone reading this is recovering okay.
At the moment we are doing a number of catering gigs for private parties and corporate events and meetings – get in touch via the ‘Contact’ page on the website if you are interested. Individual lunch delivery will be launched soon, and we will let you know when it is. We will be changing our website soon too, to something more user-friendly for lunch orders – so watch this space!
